Sacred Bull – Lammas – Harvest Sun

A handcrafted copper lunula, adored with a pair of Scottish Pictish bulls brought to life by chasing and repoussé hammer work.

Inspired by the Bronze Age ‘lunulae’ found at various barrows, burial sites or close to standing stones in Ireland, these neck-plates would have been made of finely beaten gold with a high level of skill. Similar styles have been noted throughout Europe, including lunulae made from bronze and copper.

The lunulae may have been a status symbol in Bronze Age communities as well as playing a part in the religious rituals of priests and priestesses.

The bull/ox/cow is the embodiment of plenty and power. Bull has the strength and perseverance to pull the plough and provide. An animal of passion, of the bull fight, of blood and of Hathor, Egyptian cow goddess of birth and death, this Sacred Bull Lunula was made with Lammas in mind, the great reaping of what has been sown.
